Fr Mullins honoured by the Diocese:
Fr. Tony has been
appointed a member of the Cathedral Chapter by Bishop Brendan Leahy. The last parish priest of Dromin Athlacca to
serve as a member of the Cathedral Chapter was the late Dean Canty why died in
1936. He is buried in the grounds of
Dromin Church. Dean Canty was one of the longest serving parish priest in the
history of the diocese. He was parish
priest of Dromin Athlacca from 1893 to 1936, a total of 43 years. Fr. Tony hopes to remain parish priest for
many years to come. On appointment to
the Cathedral Chapter priests are given the title Cannon. Fr Tony says he will not be using the title
Cannon, or any other titles associated with this honour.
We would like to
congratulate Fr. Tony on this honour and we too hope that he remains with us
for many years to come.

Flood
Over the last two months we have
been listing to and watching reports of flooding throughout the country. This is the first time I have seen Limerick
City flooded to such an extent that people had to be moved out of their
homes. High tides combined with strong
winds resulted in the rivers Shannon and Abbey bursting their banks at several
locations, we have been very lucky as the floods haven’t caused people living
along the river bank in our parish that much trouble.
This weather has brought to mind a
poem that we all learnt in school as children. It was written by Sara
Coleridge, 1803 – 1852
January brings the snow, makes
our feet and fingers glow.
February brings the rain, thaws the frozen lake again.
March brings breezes, loud and shrill, to stir the dancing daffodil.
April brings the primrose sweet, scatters daisies at our feet.
May brings flocks of pretty lambs, skipping by their fleecy dams.
June brings tulips, lilies, roses, fills the children's hands with posies.
Hot July brings cooling showers, apricots, and gillyflowers.
August brings the sheaves of corn, then the harvest home is borne.
Warm September brings the fruit; sportsmen then begin to shoot.
Fresh October brings the pheasant; then to gather nuts is pleasant.
Dull November brings the blast; then the leaves are whirling fast.
Chill December brings the sleet, blazing fire, and Christmas treat.

Recent Theft
Many of you will know the Bike Shop
in Kilmallock and know the owner Paul Gammell. Over €80,000 worth of top-of-the
range bikes have been stolen from his shop in Kilmallock under the darkness of
night. According to Gardaí,
approximately 70 bikes were taken by thieves from Kilmallock Cycles on the
town’s main street sometime between 8pm on Monday and 8am on Tuesday. The bikes
range in price from €1,000 to €3,500, the majority of the bikes stolen were
racing bikes of the brand Giant. There were a couple of mountain bikes as well.
They are all adult, top-of-the-range bikes. There were one or two very
expensive carbon bikes there which are about €3,500 each. They are made of
carbon fibre.” Anyone with any information can contact the Gardaí at Kilmallock
on 063 98018 or the Gardaí in Bruff at 061 382940.
