BIRTHDAY GREETINGS: We would like wish the following a very happy birthday this week:

ATHLACCA NS ENROLMENT: Athlacca National School is now taking applications for enrolment for Junior Infants for September 2016. Enrolment application forms can be had on request from the school or from Star Kids Playschool, Athlacca. HOST FAMILIES REQUIRED ATHLACCA AND SURROUNDING AREA: O'Grady School of English brings Spanish and Italian teenagers to Hospital for a English course each July. This year, we hope to run a course in Athlacca NS, and we require warm enthusiastic host families for July 4th to 25th. Students attend school every day, and have organised evening and weekend activities. Families are required to fully involve the students in everyday family and community life, and to give them a real Irish experience. Suitable host families receive an attractive payment for each student hosted. There will an information meeting in Athlacca next week if enough families are interested. CHURCH NEWS: Mass times, Dromin Monday 9.30am and Thursday 7.30pm. Athlacca Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10am.

FIRST COMMUNION: Congratulations to the children from Athlacca School who received their First Holy Communion in Athlacca Church on Saturday. It was a very moving ceremony for all who attended. The church was beautifully decorated for the celebration and it was a touch of heaven to hear the children’s voices singing hymns both old and new. Congratulations to the teachers and staff of our school for preparing the children. After the Mass a cup of tea and refreshments were available in the community hall. Despite the poor weather all who attended will have many happy memories of the day.

PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING: A meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council will take place this Thursday night in the Parochial House Dromin at 8.00p.m.

TRINITY FESTIVAL CELEBRATIONS: A Fancy Dress and Children’s Party will take place in Dromin Community Hall on Friday 13th of May from 7.00 to 9.00p.m. A Table Quiz will be held at McAuliffe’s Bar, Dromin on Saturday 14th May at 9.30p.m. Mass at Trinity Well will take place on Sunday 22nd of May at 7.30p.m. Blessing of graves in Dromin Graveyard at 7.00p.m. First Communion Children are invited to join in the Rosary Procession from the graveyard to Trinity Well

PEACE CONCERT IN KNOCK BASILICA: Mayo International Choral Festival is hosting a Peace Concert with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, in the beautiful surrounds of the fully refurbished Knock Basilica on Saturday, May 14th.   This Peace Concert will commemorate the 1916 Rising and World War One. GOLDEN JUBILEE: This year Bishop Donal Murray celebrates the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. A special Mass marking this anniversary will be celebrated on Sunday 15th of May in St Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue, Limerick at 5.00p.m. All are welcome to attend.

QUEEN OF THE MAY CONCERT: This concert will take place in St Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue, Limerick on Thursday, May 12th, starting at 8.00pm sharp. The event, which will raise funds for St Joseph’s Church Restoration Fund and for the Limerick Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Tickets are €10 each and can be purchased from St Joseph’s church (061)313401.

A MUSICAL EVENING OF 3: A concert in aid of the Mid West Simon Community at the Redemptorist Church ,Limerick on Thursday 19th May at 8.00p.m. performers include the Limerick Gospel Choir, Capriccio String Quartet and the Glenstal Boys Choir. KNOCK PILGRIMAGE : The all Ireland Rosary Rally will be will be held in Knock Shrine on Saturday 4th June. For more details see the church notice board.

NURSES - LOURDES PILGRIMAGES NEEDS YOU!: Are you a nurse? Is your Mum or Dad a nurse? Do you have any nurse/paramedic/health care professional friends? If so then maybe they'd consider going to Lourdes (June 21-26). The diocesan pilgrimage is short on nurses so please message us if you know someone who might be interested or please ask them to contact the Lourdes office at 061-314111.

LOUGH DERG: The Lough Derg Jubilee Year of Mercy Pilgrimage Season opens on Sunday 1st May with One Day Retreats which continue on 2, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 & 30 of May.  Booking is essential. The Three Day Pilgrimage season begins on Wednesday 1st June.  You may begin the Pilgrimage on any day between 1st June and 13th August.  Pre-booking is not required for the Three Day Pilgrimage. DAWN COURT EVENTS:  Music night take place on the 2nd Tue of every month. Neighbours at 3 has recommence on Thursdays. All are welcome.
Hairdresser: The hairdresser will be in attendance on Thursdays after 10.30am for the actively retired.

COMMUNITY HALL NEWS: Set Dancing is taking a break for the Summer.

BADMINTON: Takes place in Dromin Community Hall Tuesday at 7pm for adults and will continue every Tuesday’s and Thursday nights. For those of you who are not interested in going to the gym, this is a great form of exercise for a quarter of the price.

DROMIN - ATHLACCA COMMUNITY TEXT ALERT:  We are asking that people continue to stay in contact with their neighbours especially if there is anyone they feel may need assistance.
Forty two personal alarms have been fitted over the past few years and they are a very reassuring device. They enable the holder in the case of an emergency to contact someone who will organise help. If there is anyone in the parish without one of these who feel they may be entitled to one could they please contact our secretary Katherine O’Regan.

WHATS ON…

SUNDAY MAY 15 - DAWN CHORUS:  Meet at the UL Concert Hall car Park at 5.45am (sharp). We will walk around the grounds and along the Banks of the Shannon, listening for the various birdsong. To help with Identification we will be testing Gordon Young once more, hopefully with his able assistant Gyr Penn. Wear warm clothing and strong footwear. Bring Binocs. Leader: Gordon Young

WEST LIMERICK TOASTMASTERS:  The last club meeting of the season takes place at the Desmond Complex next Wednesday, May 18 from 8pm.  Why not go along and see what you think and if you find it might be for you then you have the summer free to think about it before you need to commit.

CO. LIMERICK BEEKEEPERS MEET:  Co.  Limerick Beekeepers Association will hold its next meeting on Thursday, May 12 at 8pm in Mungret GAA. Guest speaker on the night is Michael Maunsell and the topic will be 'Diseases and Record Keeping'. Paul O' Sullivan from Bee Supplies will be in the car-park from 6.30pm, if anybody wishes to purchase any equipment before the lecture.
KNOCKLONG HISTORY WEEKEND 2016: The history weekend takes place on 13th, 14th & 15th of May. The old creamery site is being transformed into Knocklong 1919 for the staging of THE RESCUE of Seán Hogan. The play is being written & performed by the County Limerick Youth Theatre on Friday 13th at 7:30pm, Saturday 14th at 6pm & Sunday 15th at 4:30pm. Entry price €10/€5conc. CHARLEVILLE VINTAGE CLUB TRACTOR RUN SUNDAY 15 MAY 2016 in aid of Rathfredagh Cheshire Home: Charleville & District Veteran Vintage & Classic Club will hold a tractor run on Sunday 15 May 2016, starting from John Roche’’s garage, Kilmallock in aid of Rathfredagh Cheshire Home. All vehicles are welcome. Passengers are not allowed on tractors, nor are implements on the tractors. Refreshments will be served before we start the run.
